She got pregnant and then had to quit though....

I don't think there's much danger of that happening to Hope, though, is there?

I think they should give her the job just to wind up her predecessor :D

Mike Newell on a female assistant referee:
"She shouldn't be here. I know that sounds sexist but I am sexist. This is not park football, so what are women doing here?"

Would be poetic justice if he then got replaced by a female boss at Grimsby!

My section at work is comprised of me and about sixteen guys, many with significantly greater experience in our specific field of work than me. I've been in charge of them plenty of times & none of them have ever given me any shit about it, so I don't see why a bunch of footballers should see fit to judge a potential manager on her gender.

I don't even see why the whole changing room thing would be a factor- various clubs now have female physios or doctors, who presumably see their boys wandering round in the buff all the time.

I still suspect this is a publicity stunt by someone at Grimsby & can't really see it happening, but all the same, Hope Powell is as qualified for this job as plenty of others.

No doubt the lefty loonies will be on the streets protesting this, protect our sacred and virginal angelic women. Football went to the stoneage when they banned women!! There was a time when women's football was the dominate sport and then the lefties ruined that too!! disgusting pigs

I might send Ms Powell a cheeky email (if I can find her address) & suggest we do a jobshare wotsit. Admittedly we'll be on shit money (so no change there then!), but I reckon she could possibly do with a bit of managerial downtime after all her good work with England. Wot with her brains & my ability to sort-of understand the new offside law; make a blinding egg & chips whilst sorting a smashing cuppa (via my multi-tasking gene), I reckon we'll STORM the lower leagues.

Way out west
none of her players would question her, lets face it they would never win against a woman they are allways right

Best refereeing display I saw last season was from a woman, Amy Rayner, she controlled the game superbly and none of the players gave her any shit whatsoever or questioned any of the decisions she made. (Possibly for the reason given above, but maybe because of the way she refereed the game)

It's a nothing story dreamed up by bored journalists, by the way. Why would she leave the most secure job at the FA for Grimsby?

You never know , the smell of fish maybe appealing to her.
