If it's any comfort, it is a very nice tracksuit and can at least be worn with pride !
You could certainly have retracted before the end, and let the seller know why (couldn't afford it/mistake of auction details etc) and I doubt they'd hold much against you .
You option now if you regret it that much, is to allow the next highest bidder to have it for 36 quid (their next bid before you raised it) and send the seller 5quid for the balance.....but this would require agreement from all parties.
