But if we'd hung him, as we should have, just think how many nurses could have be funded with what its cost to keep him there for 42 years.

Ed I think John Straffen the child killer, depicted as Streaky in the film McVicar, has been in longer. Should have hung him as well.

Ed I stand corrected Straffen died in November 2007, after serving his sentence since he killed two little girls in 1951, apart from when he escaped in 1952 and killed another one.
So Roberts must be the record holder.

He's certainly the oldest prisoner in custody -- and for good reason. Last time he was given a few days' release from his open prison, because of his mum's funeral, he went to the birthday party of Kate Kray.

I remember, in my young North Stand days, theHarry roberts song was quite a popular chant although I knew little about him.

I still don't know much so should be interesting viewing. Didn't realise he's still alive.
