Overplay is the best one I've used. It's ten bucks a month but for me it's worth it. The free ones are OK but very slow and seem to freeze up a lot.

i use witopia. They have multiple options for which country you wish to appear to be in. Let's me watch Hulu from the US, or connect to BBC iplayer etc whilst abroad

Their PPTP version is $40 (£25)for the year, and openvpn SSL version is $70 (£44)

Can't you get an extension for Firefox that changes your country?

Yes, but you need to know what ip number to use for which country.

To watch some american stuff I use the hotspot shield thing someone linked earlier, but for others using the firefox header modifier works:
Using Firefox and Modify Headers Plugin to View Blocked Video Streams at Cynics Unlimited

I imagine for it to work the other way you need to put in the uk equivalent of 12.13.14.15

It looks complex, but it is actually very easy.
