Have the BNP's wins tipped the NSC bias?

As a card carrying lefty liberal apologist hand-wringing do gooder I've been amazed at the upsurge in 'nimby' posts on this board since the BNP's shameful election victories.

I am genuinely perturbed by the sudden (Das Reich apart) verbosity from the previously under-achieving far right amongst us. Has this minority found their voice and mistakenly believe they have been given a mandate to peddle their racist opinions by the two seats gained? Or am I now in the minority? Shudder.

Oh...and why has this led to a dearth of fittest women polls and general sexist banter?

No Poll, to polarising.

Discuss.

No, they've been spouting their shite on here for ages.

.

Can I just remind everyone of the good news about the BNP's performance on Thursday? It may have slipped your notice, but less people voted BNP in these Euro Elections than in the 2004 Euro elections. They only got a greater share of the vote, and two seats, because of the all the Labour voters who stayed at home (note: not 'switched to BNP', but 'stayed at home').

They're a party in decline.

Now, of course, as we all know, fascists getting elected does bring otherwise timid little scaredy-cats out into the open, as they see it as validation and get some kind of bravado from it - hence the spike in violent crime which research has shown always follows fascist electoral victories. Nevertheless, we shouldn't think they are on the rise - and certainly we shouldn't come to that conclusion just because a few NSCers are getting excited.

I believe the BNP as a party should exist. Do I agree with them, no. I beleive there should be as many partys of what ever believe to exist. The biggest one will win.

I think they should exist purley because it can give a voice to people who feel they are not being heard.

Its to easy to say: "oh, there just rasist scum bags". Yes, the BNP as a party are scumbags and should be stopped at all costs. But to deny people the right to vote for them is a so beyound my democratic feelings.

Benjamin Franklin said:
Those who would give up a little Liberty to gain a little security, will deserve neither and lose both.

The only way to 'get rid of the Nazi scum' is to address the reasons people vote for them. This is Democracy.

Indeed. Made me chuckle, that.

Not sure about the BNP I considered voting for them but too many socialist policies for me plus the whole race issue, they say they are not racist but lets face it they are not exactly welcoming the fuzzy wuzzies with open arms are they.

The problem is the more the left get themselves in such a state over the big bad evil fascists (And some of the ridiculous over reactions to 2 Euro seats on here sum that up) the more people will consider voting for them.

Today’s shameful attack on democracy by the UAF? is a perfect example of that. The BNP are not the NF or C18 they have moved on from the 1970/80s street battles and they are democratically elected to represent us in the European parliament (and locally in some parts) and close to a million people voted for them.

The sooner the UAF and the rest on the left wing accept that the sooner they may actually start doing something effective to defeat them. The pictures of the UAF today made them looked like extremist nutters and Nick and Co look normal!!!!

Personally more worrying for me was the Green vote in Brighton, has anyone who voted for them actually read their manifesto?

There total vote went up about 20% nationally, it was diminished in the north, East and west by stay at homes etc.

I think what people mean when they say the vote was down, becasue they did not listen properly, is their vote went down in Barnsley, or somewhere like that.

Nationaly, their vote went up 3%. They are a party that is growning and need to be takled, not ignored or sneard at.

The most interesting statistic to come out of the election in my view is the combined vote of all the minor parties. Never before in British political history has there been so much discontentment and anger at the Lib/Lab/Con consensus.

Long may it continue.;)

Much a do about nothing on this PC board.

Facts are the BNP are a legitimate party with a lot of support. Just because on here some can't get their heads round that doesnt mean a thing

Regardless of their policies, they entered the election race on equal footing with everybody else. The fact that they managed to win a couple of seats gives an insight to the way that the population feels at present.
The fact is that they won fair and square, whether you like it or not, so I expect the numbers voting in the next election to increase so this dosen't happen again. Lesson learn't, a 'no' vote is one more for a party you don't like.

Voting patterns in the general elections aren't the same as the euros.

Many use the latter for protest votes (see also Greens 1989), and many more don't bother = unusual results.
