Anyone going?

Weather is lovely here and should be a cracking evening. Cheap prices for kids as well.

Seen the albion squad for tonight although obviously not a complete first team, what with having a game tomorrow, it does have a good sprinkling of first teamers.

Hastings United kick-off their home pre-season friendlies tonight when a Brighton & Hove Albion XI roll into The Pilot Field.
The Seagulls have announced a 16-man squad made up of first team players and reserves.

Frontline players include Gary Hart, Joe Gatting, Joel Lynch, Sam Rents and Nathan Elder.

The full squad is Sullivan, Gay, Fogden, Rents, Chamberlain, Lynch, Cobbs, Skinner, Reid, Gatting, Elder, Hart, Gargan, Wills, Louis and Pearson. Kick-off is 7.45pm.

Hastings opened their friendly programme with a 1-1 draw at Ryman Division One North side Dartford on Saturday.

The visitors recovered from conceding an early Tom Poole goal to level things up through Ade Olorunda 20 minutes from time.

Scott Kirkwood, Tom Cusden, Jani Seitsonen, Nathan Russell and Matt Darby all made their first appearances in Hastings' colours, while Nima Cham was back from injury and Dave Henham returned after a spell with County League Sidley United.

Would agree with that ...no 4 looked very comfortable on the ball..thought 2 and 10 also played well...didnt recon much of the new goalie

2 was Lloyd Skinner and 10 was Sam Gargan.

It was a lovely header into the top left corner by Gatts.

Skipper for the night Lee Carey converted a penalty six minutes from time to earn United their second pre-season draw in a row, as a youthful Brighton & Hove Albion side failed to hang on to the advantage given them by Joe Gatting's seventy-first minute goal. United certainly held their own against an Albion side that failed to seriously test keeper Lee Worgan until midway through the second half, with a draw undoubtedly a fair result on the night.

United manager Nigel Kane made three changes to the line-up that started at Dartford on Saturday, bringing John Bradley and Russell Eldridge into a five man midfield at the expense of Nima Cham and Danny Ellis, while former Hollington United defender Nathan Russell was preferred to Brett Griffin at the back. Dan Williams, Rhys Whyborne and Tim Olorunda remained unavailable, while Club captain Sean Ray was not considered for selection following his recent return from holiday. The visitors opted to send a largely second string side to the Pilot Field, although there was experience in the guise of midfielders Paul Reid and Gary Hart, and defender and skipper Joel Lynch, all returning to action after lengthy injury lay-offs. Keeper John Sullivan and left back Sam Rents were the two ex-Hastings players in the Seagulls' line-up, with Doug Loft denied a return to the Pilot Field due to injury.

The early stages of the first half suggested an even encounter to be likely, United getting stuck in with some strong challenges, and Lynch not taking too kindly to Ade Olorunda's combative style. The visitors slowly started to take control of proceedings though, with Gatting and strike partner Sam Gargan both shooting wide of the target from useful positions before the twenty minute mark. Sullivan was enjoying a fairly quiet time in the Brighton goal, although he did spill an inswinging cross from Lee under pressure from Nathan and Kevin Rose, only to gather at the second attempt. Gargan headed wide from a Gatting cross, and was then denied by Jimmy Elford's unwitting block, but the visitors appeared to pose little more than a sporadic threat on United's goal, as the first half eventually reached a rather pedestrian conclusion.

United began the second half with greater purpose and looked the better side for a twenty minute spell. Lee's tenacity in midfield set up a chance for Ade, which he had to take early, forcing a sharp save out of substitute keeper Danny Gay. Scott Chamberlain was then fortunate not to head into his own net from a huge Tom Cusden long throw, but having survived those scares, Albion regained control, and Lee Worgan produced a fine stop to push away Gatting's bobbling twenty yard effort, while Gargan headed wastefully over from Rents' ensuing corner. The opening goal of the game arrived with around twenty minutes remaining, resulting from an error by Nathan, who was caught in possession in his own penalty area by Reid, whose delightfully chipped cross was headed into the roof of the net by the unmarked Gatting. Less than two minutes later, Ade was chopped down by Sonny Cobbs, and Lee curled the resulting twenty-five yard free kick onto the Albion crossbar, with Scott Kirkwood appearing to be fouled by Cobbs as he attempted to reach the rebound. The referee waved play on after that incident, but he pointed to the spot ten minutes later, when Scott again tumbled under challenge from Cobbs, this time a clear push as the United midfielder tried to run onto Russell's pinpoint left wing cross. Lee took responsibility for the penalty kick, beating Gay high to his left to deservedly level the scores. Albion's late surge for a winner saw United penned back in their own half for the closing few minutes, with Dave Henham knowing little about a vital block that kept out a twenty yard shot by Reid in stoppage time.

Remaining unbeaten through two tough pre-season openers should give United a huge boost in confidence, especially as both results were achieved with less than full strength line-ups. United can also take heart from the knowledge that their opening Ryman League opponents, Billericay Town, could do no better than a goalless draw against a similar strength Brighton side ten days ago. The pre-season countdown continues on Thursday for United, when they make the short trip to face Blue Square South neighbours Eastbourne Borough at Priory Lane.

Apologies to Kane Louis for my minor outburst when he wouldn't have a dig.

We're looking like we're trying to walk the ball into the back of the net again though. Don't think we had a single shot from more than about 10 yards.
