Albion have completed the signing of Ryan Harley on a three-year deal from Swansea City for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old playmaker first attracted Gus Poyet's interest in January but opted to move to Swansea City, who at that time were flying high in the Championship, with Albion pushing from promotion from League One.

Poyet said, "It's no secret that we have been interested in Ryan for some time now. We were close in January, but he went to Swansea City because they were in the Championship - and that was understandable, any player wants to play at the highest level they possibly can.

"However, their promotion to the Premiership meant that he may have had to wait longer for his opportunity, and it is clear Ryan wants to play. So we were delighted to have finally brought Ryan to Brighton.

"We know what he is about, he is a player who likes to get on the ball and make things happen. He has a great range of passing - and he will complement the players already have here - but his first challenge will be to earn his place in the team, as the team has made a great start in the Championship."

Albion will have to wait for international clearance before he is eligible to play, and Harley will only be available for selection for tomorrow evening's Carling Cup tie with Sunderland if the club receive clearance back from the Welsh FA ahead of the noon deadline.

Harley, who was in the crowd for Albion's 3-1 win at Cardiff City, commented, "It made my mind up when I watched the Cardiff game and the way Brighton play and pass it about, that suits my game.

"I'm really excited about the move, the stadium and the type of football they play. I'm a player that likes to get on the ball, create and score goals.

"I want to come here to play, and had no qualms about dropping down from Premier League, but hopefully I'll get the chance to play there one day, and there's no reason why Brighton cant get there."

Weird, last week it was said that we couldn't sign him until we got international clearance. Now we're saying we've signed him but can't play him until the clearance comes through.

Did someone realise this morning that we could sign him and just not play him until the clearance came through?

Still subject to international clearance from the Wales FA. One of the Albion coaching staff knows one of the secretaries in the FA office and is trying to get her to hurry the process along a bit.

Hopefully Barnesy can help him feel at home - at least they will understand each other! International clearance still needs to be received before he can play though and we only have until midday for him to make the side against Sunderland.

Fee was £250K

He was at The AMEX on Saturday too apparently.

Dead ball specialist, so maybe we can now be more productive of our set pieces, as we seemed to struggle to score from corners (apart from the second goal against Blackpool) and free kicks in dangerous places since Bennett left.

Looking forward to seeing him play

Fee thought to be £250k

We're seem to have a very good record of getting the players we target these days. Whether it Harley or Hoskins, if we miss out on them in one window, we keep going until we get them.

Yet more evidence that the balance of power has shifted. Money no object.
