I might dust off my £8-in-the-Next-sale burgandy Fred Perry rip-off polo shirt to mark the occasion.

And you can lower the price of your polo shirts Fred. £45+ is a rip.

Just buy some Pilipino fakes on ebay for £15. Fred won’t mind.

Think Buzzer may wear one of his limited edition blue ones today.

So limited edition someone else was wearing one at the Bad Manners gig last year!

He had a daughter who lived in Saltdean years ago. I met the great man there once. What a gentleman.

I remember being a youngish teenager in the seventies and the old dear buying me some Fred Perry polo shirts from her catalogue for around three for a tenner!!!

Those were the days dudes :p

Just got to this thread via a search for Fred Perry Rottingdean. I didn't know he lived in Rottingdean - if he was around in the late 60's early 70's I'd have delivered his paper.

(just heard it on the i-player - Radio 4 Book of the Week. Quite a man. World champion at table tennis before he took up lawn tennis.

Did you know he became an American citizen and many thought he did this to miss being drafted in 1939.

This is probably the reason he was never knighted.

He did, however, join the US Army.

Although he never served and was used as PR. He said he picked up an injury in his elbow. Its all a bit of a grey area - who said what etc etc... but it is a fact he was disliked by many in England and became an American citizen.
