I don't think it's fair to say he deserves 4 years in prison as the punishment clearly does not fit the crime.

I agree the punishment does not fit the crime. But do your research if you are flying into the Emirates. Seriously, why would you risk anything in that country?

The odd thing is that they were upset about him having some porn on him. A little bit hypocritical as porn is not hard to come by in the UAE and there are so many prostitues quite openly plying their trade.

Have only been to Dubai, none of the other Emirates but even magazines like Q or Empire had black bars over any slightly exposed flesh. May be differant in other places though. I imagine in Grooveriders case they wanted to make an example of a foreigner as well though.

Four years for finding 0.003g of the drug - an amount that is invisible to the naked eye and weighs less than a grain of sugar - in the sole of his shoe?!!!

FFS!! We've probably ALL got that amount on our clothes.

I got stopped at Sydney Airport five years ago after sniffer dogs took an interest in my rucksack. The customs officers swabbed my bags and claimed they found traces of MDMA, so they searched everything thoroughly. And found nothing. I've never done MDMA, never had a pill, so quite where that 'trace' came from I'll never know. Sydney's officials, thankfully, let me through. But God knows what sort of sentence I'd have faced if that had happened in Dubai, Singapore or wherever. It's quite a chilling thought.

He'll probably pardoned at Ramadam which is September or National Day early Dec as those are the times they have a clear out of the prisons in the name of good faith.

I think the Groove will do 6 months max then get released, they have a prison clear out and it looks good for foreign affairs

That happened to someone on one of those Airport reality programmes. The trace showed up on the swabs and they were suspicious because he had visited places like Columbia. They let him go in the end as they couldn't find anything. That was Sydney Airport too.
