I'm sure there's 50 more we've forgotten.

Hang on - St Etienne "Only love can break your heart" needs a mention too.

and how can I forget Nick Cave?

and if we're talking ANTHEMS, then surely we're looking at 'This Charming Man' and 'William, it was really nothing' rather than 'there's a light..'

Cover versions should be excluded from any "Best ever...." lists. Except "Best ever cover versions" lists, obviously.

If anthemic means slightly bouncy, then I guess Beat(en) Generation might just creep in.

Hang on a good god damn minute

Most of The The's material was on Sony- so NOT indie!

Yeah, see what you mean!

I meant it's about the biggest indie anthems ever- so didn't think June 1980 would be a problem- especially on INDIE label Factory records.

Good point, well made

my mate used to go to school with them in Stoke interestingly (or not) enough).

Come on HKFC - there must be more we missed. What about the Waterboys? Do they count?

I saw Carter USM playing at a school in Steyning 89-90, I think, a charity do, they don't like to talk about it though.

I saw Carter at a union bar in Liverpool, and they were quality.

From memory, I saw the Wedding Present AND the House of Love in that same week.

Oh to be a student again!
