Rat Tomago - Frank Zappa without a doubt best solo ever imho. Maybe not technically brilliant, but I can listen to that song again and again for 30 odd years and never be bored. For a 5:17 guitar solo, that's pretty impressive.
Perhaps closely followed by Steve Hillage Guitarist with Gong - Master Builder
followed by the great David Gilmour - probably another brick in a wall, though I'm sure he's done many brilliant ones.

I'm expecting to get hounded for this, but I think that Free Bird is possibly one of the worst solos I've ever heard. If he'd stopped after about 20 seconds then it would've been ok...
