On this, the 33rd anniversary of one of the most famous 2nd half performances I have ever seen at the Albion, what other 2nd halves stick in your memory?

Oct 5th 1976 - Shocking first half v Walsall. One of the kids I was with actually went home at half time because as he accurately said it was shit (a la Pornomagboy) This was before teletext let alone NSC and I don't think he knew the result until the next morning.
The rest as they say is history as Ward and Mellor shared seven.

vs Colchester at the Priestfield. 3-0 down at half time only for Paul Emblen to bang home a hattrick before we gave them the lead again only for Jeff "The Magician" Minton score a free kick for a 4-4 draw. A young Ninja was a ball boy that day thanks to The Costa Express, and the highlight was handing the ball to Kerry Mayo.

I think the Walsall one is unique simply because the 1st half was SO bad, it had 0-0 written all over it.

Not so much a great 2nd half but a great last 20 minutes - anyone remember when we played away at Coventry in about 1982? There was about 70 minutes gone, we were 3-0 down and looking well beaten. Up pops Gordon Smith (with a hattrick I believe) and it finished 3-3. It remains the only away game my Mum has ever gone to.

Leicester - 2 goals down to the best team in our division befor turning it around completly in the second half, yes we didn't score 7 but it was one of the best 45 minuets i've seen us play and the celebrations were brilliant. If only pornomagboy had seen it...:lol:

Cheltenham was my first away game with my mates and the second half completed what was a brilliant day out that had just about everything in it including seeing the team you support claw a two goal deficet back to get a vital point.

Oh and btw, how am i comparing them to Walsall game? It clearly says what second halves stand out for you (or words to that effect) and they stand out in my mind as good second halves.

Run along :wanker:

Oh, and Man City once at the Goldstone. Pretty sure we played them once when it was 0-0 at half time and then we took them to pieces in the 2nd half and won 4-0. It might have been the match when Gerry Ryan scored his wonder goal but I really can't remember.

EDIT: Anyone got a clip of that Ryan wonder goal? I'm pretty sure the match was televised.

Sheff U away....3-0 down, pulled one back before the break but then 3-2, 3-3, 3-4...4-4....5-4

OK we lost but from 3-0 to 4-3 was special.

.

...and it was pissing down. A thoroughly miserable 45 minutes.

I know it's not an Albion match but surely Liverpool in the CL final against Milan must be one of the best second halves ever. I'm no scouser but even I was excited by that.

I was at that one. When they showed TV highlights the next day they didn't show a single kick from the first half, just started with the second half highlights. I may be wrong, but I think the Ryan wonder goal was from a different game v Man City

One that stick out for me was a haome game v Millwall in about 76 or 77. There had been lots of trouble before and during the game, the Millwall thugs had taken over a section of the terrace in front of the West Stand and we were 2-nil down at half time, playing crap. The players were only off for about 5 minutes before Mullery sent them out again. We thern went on to win 3-2 with Steve Piper scirong with a header that seemed to come from the edge of the penalty area

That was a good comeback as i recall, just a shame we let them back in it after getting to 3-3 ! One of the few highlights at the pissfield

Not so much a second half as last 5 minutes. I seem to remember being 3-1 down to Liverpool at the Goldstone with 5 to play. I am sure Case scored twice including a diving header to complete his hatrick and level the score.

Maybe I am just so old now that my memory is playing tricks.

Sounds exactly as I remember it - tipping it down - very central half way up the Chicken Run - my bird came to her first and only game with me. Brighton were sensational at the end. At the head of this piece was the Walsall post. Obviously it was only a few weeks after the York game. I just about go for the York game because I thought that there was a genuine danger that we would lose. In chronological order I think it came after the win in the League Cup against Ipswich and the win at WBA in the same competion. It was quite a 4-5 week period, even by the high standards of that season.

Coventry City (A) Old Div 1 Around 1981 0-3 down with about half an hour to go - Gordon Smith hat trick 3-3. Otherwise a crap game though.

Hereford '97. We were shite for the whole of the first half, Hereford should have buried us.

A desperate Steve Gritt throws on Robbie Reinelt, a £15,000 signing, in the second half. After 62 minutes a Hereford defender miscues a clearance to Craig Maskell, he traps the ball on his thigh, and shoots from 20 yards past the keeper, but the ball hits the post and bounces back.

TIME STANDS STILL, it is the longest two seconds of my life, half a dozen players hare towards the ball as it comes out to the six yard line, and ROBBIE REINELT is first there, lashes it home, and I scream louder than ever before in my life, and go mental.

Nothing, but nothing, can replace or match that moment. I don't care what the Albion go on to win in the future, but it was pure, intense, unbeatable ecstacy.

This is a weird one because we lost on penalties, but Vs Luton JPT Area Final Second Leg. The defending in that, under bad circumstances was top draw, to keep them out for 45 minutes, with some class Kuipers saves, and some really good last ditch tackles, great second half. Shame we lost.

Good call, El Pres, can't see that being topped.

Woolfie, glad you remember that Coventry game as well.
