Disagree. Australia has always been a positive outward-looking country, bless em. Cancelling the fireworks would have been bowing down to lazy social media outrage. Enough of that already

Definitely should have cancelled the display and saved the fireworks for next NYE, it's not as though they would have gone off or anything.

With the advancement of laser technology, you'd think in hindsight, it would've been a cleaner and more earth friendly option!

Hong Kong has had Light displays for years.....BORING......seen it there a few times......I prefer big bangs the smell and whooshy exploding lights.

I wonder if those stuck on the beach at Mallacoota appreciated them and all those dollars exploded to make that pretty fire in the sky

Mallacoota is way down south in Victoria. No where near Sydney. The folks in Batemans Bay, on the other hand... My grandparents and mum are in Tuross Heads, just south of there. They've got the Batemans fire to the north, and another just as bad to the south (the one that hit Cobargo). Only one road in or out, and its closed.
