It's probably something to do with telling the female steward that she would find a big weapon down your skinners and alluding to some vague Muslim stuff.

OTT and tragic that 70s banter is no longer allowed at football...that said. I would have just complied with the clubs security arrangements and got on with my day.

To be fair it's been a while since we've had the ol' fans V Stewards debate, was only a matter of time!
Yeah, but this time most of us are on the side of the stewards! For me I think this is the first time! I almost hope that the steward's off-the-cuff comment about a two-year ban turns out to be true then I can froth with righteous indignation about the state of modern football again.

Basic summary.

Being escorted out was completely your fault.

a 2 year ban won't happen but would be overly harsh if it did somehow.

I just can't believe, reading that back, that you didn't just STOP TALKING.

Good heavens, people drinking and swearing at the football? Good God, a two year ban is too good for these Neanderthals, they should be led straight to the gallows.

Where in the rules does it say that somebody making an ill advised joke to the stewards should result in a two year ban from the Amex?

You missed the gist of my post then. The point I was making is that it was the people that somehow thought the rules and normal common curiosities were not something they had to worry about. They would often be emboldened by drink - look what it does on West Street on a Saturday night !

I didn't say, or even imply, that people shouldn't drink or swear at football.

He hasn't got a 2 year ban - stewards don't hand out bans - the club do. Likewise female stewards do not pat down male supporters. Therefore I'd suggest the OP's original post can't be taken at face value.

Basically, if you act like a cock you'll get treated like a cock - and that holds true for life in general not just at the football.

Why should he just have to "stop talking" because of an arbitrary decision by a steward who probably failed the referees exam, if it's found out that he was rude and abusive then fair enough, but this sort of sheep like mentality is why football fans are allowed to be treated like crap by various petty officials and associated bodies like the police etc, the theory that if you've done nothing wrong, you've got nothing to worry about just doesnt hold water in my opinion.

It is still a bit rich that they 'stewed' on the issue for half the game, then decided to make an issue of it. If it offended that much, then they would surely have been offended right there and then, I suspect they were not up with their ejection quotas or something..... complete over-reaction. ( and I certainly wopuldnt have handed my ST over)... he was innocent until proven guilty by whatever due process they employ, until then the ST would stay in my pocket.

Right, I learnt this at the age of 6.

If I wanted my sweets but was having an argument with my mum, even if I KNOW I'm not in the wrong, I would shut up to have my sweets.

My sweets costed considerably less than a season ticket.

Yes, but your mum was in a position of legitimate authority and I doubt that she made decisions based on a feeling of jobsworth inadequacy , which a lot of hi viz wearers seem to do these days, once again i'll reiterate that its this sort of mute compliance in the face of unreasonable officialdom, that allows it to happen. This post is a general one, and not really commenting on the rights and wrongs of the original subject, I'll also add that I've not had any unpleasant experiences with AMEX stewards at all on my visits there.

Supporter is the Customer, the Stewards are the Service Provider.

If you close your eyes really really hard and say this over and over again, some might have a better experience at football matches.

And without the provider you wouldn't be able to go to the Amex! Respect works both ways I guess!

That is normally my default position as well, but reading the OP's original post I think the only person being 'unreasonable' is him. Rightly or wrongly the simple act of being searched at a football match is pretty standard and has been long before the current oppressive, regulation-infested, brand-protected era. It really is no big deal. I also think the stewards did the right thing in 'stewing' it over as opposed kicking him out on the spur of the moment.

I take your earlier point though about bigbelly having other things going on in his life that may have made him overreact. Maybe he could put that in his letter of apology.

Yeah, you're right mate , we've all snapped at something which is perfectly reasonable , but takes on an importance out of all proportion when there is an underlying issue affecting our personal lives , from what I can gather , the OP is going through the mill with his dad's condition at the moment, he should take the course of action that you said, the stewards who we came across on saturday were perfectly pleasant and helpful, I'm not about to start complaining before I've even got my season ticket :lolol:

Actually I meant the steward has no authority to revoke the season ticket, I'm sure the club does but from BBs story it sounded like the female steward asked for his ST to get his name and seat etc, which he didnt have to hand over.

All season tickets and paper tickets remain the property of BHAFC and came be revoked or requested at anytime between arriving and when you leave the footprint of the stadium.
