Firstly, Not everyone likes it, and I suspect not everyone knows the words but would it be possible for the ultra section to sing GOSBTS in its entirety when the team comes out? Even if there was only 30 people singing it, waving flags I think it mght encourage others elsewhere in the ground to do so.

From another thread, but up for debate, If not many people know all the words for GOSBTS, use the big screen to show the words and have it bouncy ball stylee showing the words, to have the whole ground singing as the players come out would be superb They do this in the good old US of A for the traditional baseball song.

Is it really that hard to learn the lyrics?

And it's time for a change anyway, we need something new with a bit of a beat to it.

It would be fairly ridiculous to expect thousands of people to sing words from a song that are spectacularly outdated.

However, 10,000 Sussex supporters manage to sing "Good Old sussex by the sea" at an appropriate pace. It is not totally unreasonable to expect the absolute goons in the Albion support to learn how to do this before Falmer opens. I feel it unlikely though...

Wouldn't it be easier to have 'Hymn book' on all seat showing the lyrics to all main chants

I don't think it is a bad suggestion to have the lyrics with a bouncing ball style sing-a-long as the teams come out. I remember the good people at The Seagull Love Review circulated the lyrics to GOSBTS at Shrewsbury for the JPT area semi, which didn't really catch on. Shame, because I would love to hear the song in its' entirity sung, rather than the chorus sung at 100mph.

If you're suggesting that we have the team run out to anything other than GOSBTS, then I have to totally disagree.

If we stop using GOSBTS we might as well start playing in lime green and purple hoops. It is our song, it represents our club and our county and should never be changed for some here today, gone tomorrow pop crap that any other club in the league could use just because it has 'a beat to it'.

Would West Ham change "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles"? Would Liverpool change "You'll Never Walk Alone"? No, of course they wouldn't, and nor should we change GOSBTS.

Ever.

Almost as bad as goal music.

If ever GOSBTS was done away with I will lead the protest marches along the seafront Singing lustily.

Excellent piece of music - for the Falmer opening could they get a proper band to perform it. There used to be (may still be, I haven't been for a few years) a very fine red jacketed military band, the Kohima band I believe, who perform a particularly stirring version of this already stirring tune. Sounded really good echoing round the streets at Lewes, particularly at full volume after midnight as I once heard it!

As long as they stop playing the horrid SKA version I'll be happy.

I'm torn at the end of every home win (so 5 times this season) as to whether to leg it to avoid the ghastly version of put up with it an applaud...

I always stay but its a serious bugbear of mine. Horrid, horris version.

The traditional GOSBTS is part of my heritage as a Brighton fan and would miss it.

Is it really that hard to learn the lyrics?

Well it is quite long:
Now is the time for marching
Now let your hearts be gay
Hark to the merry bugles
Sounding along our way
So let your voices ring, my boys,
And take the time from me
And I'll sing you a song, as we march along,
Of Sussex by the Sea.

For we're the men from Sussex
Sussex by the sea,
We plough and sow and reap and mow,
And useful men we are we:
And when you go from Sussex,
Whoever you may be,
You tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Oh, Sussex, Sussex by the sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
You may tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Light is the love of a soldier
That's what the ladies say
Lightly he goes a-wooing
Lightly he rides away,
In love and war, we always are
As fair as fair can be,
And a soldier boy is the ladies joy
In Sussex by the sea.

Oh, Sussex, Sussex by the sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
You may tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Far o'er the seas we wander
Wide through the world we roam,
Far from the kind hearts yonder
Far from our dear old home,
But never shall we forget my boys
And true we'll ever be
To the girls so kind that we left behind
In Sussex by the sea.

Oh, Sussex, Sussex by the sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
You may tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

And it's time for a change anyway, we need something new with a bit of a beat to it.

No, no we don't.

Love the idea of karaoke football chants.

Imagining a big screen with lyrics and bouncy ball for the likes of:

- Your gonna get your f***ing head kicked in.

- Who's the w**ker in the black
etc.

Just as long as your average pop song which most people seem to be able to remeber, if it's so relevant and rousing to one and all, why is it so hard for people to know the lyrics or in fact sing it at the correct pitch?
