REMF GOLF DAY REPORT
Friday the 11th July, Hassocks Golf Course played host to the second Robert Eaton Memorial Fund Golf Day. The event was organised by team captains Kevin Risby & Tony Langridge.
Twenty eight willing golfers took part with 14 representing Brighton & 14 travelling down to represent Crystal Palace. Each team were split into pairs & this made a total of seven fourballs.
First on the tee for the Crystal Palace side were Duncan Rowan & Nick Jackson who both put there 1st shots out of bounds so were on the tee longer than expected, the pressure must have been to much as all 26 other golfers playing were watching. Eventually after nearly an hour all 28 golfers were on the course & ready to score stableford points.
At the half way stage after 9 holes, Kevin Risby was leading the scoring with 26 points, however he could not keep this high rate of scoring up & only managed 12 more points to his total.
Once everyone had completed there 18 holes, scores were counted & the great Hassocks Grill was served, just what everyone needed after 18 holes in the blazing sun. The scores were then totalled & the individual winner & runners up were:
1st- John Garraty- CPFC- 40 points
2nd- Phil Dorman- BHAFC- 39 points
Joint 3rd- Kevin Risby- CPFC 38 points
- Colin Kemp- BHAFC 38 points
The totals for both teams were added up & the winners for the second year running were the Brighton side with 422 points, palace this year did make an improvement but were 50 points short of the Brighton total scoring 372 points.
Special mentions go to Nick Jackson who scored 6 points after a 110 yard chip for an eagle. Great thanks to Tony Langridge for help in the organisation of such a great day & finally to Hassocks Golf Club for playing host & supplying a raffle prize.
The trophies were presented to the winner & winning team captain by Douglas Eaton. It was then time for the raffle, thanks to REMF chairman Gareth Glover for organising this. Most prizes were of the alcoholic nature & were all donated by players so many thanks to them also.
The event this year raised a total of £237.
