At the time near enough every game was attracting 10,000+ crowds (though the 'official' figures were always nearer to 8,000).

Wasn't the Barnet match where Ian Baird CHESTED in the winner, in front of the North Stand?

I think this is the one where the Baird goal is just coming up.

This brings back memories. I use to look through this hole in the West Stand gate to get a look of the crowd before going inside or walking past at night....

Look at the coppers lined up along side the Forest fans at the Goldstone. Proper old school that one.

The place was f***ing ROCKING that night. You couldn't move in the north stand, I'd usually go and chat to some of my mates who stood a at front at half time, but I couldn't even get out of that pen behind the goal.
I can picture Baird chesting it in in front of the north stand clear as day, and everyone going mental.

I know it sounds like old fartism, but you did miss out Conboy. That's one of the reasons why so many people who were lucky enough to go to the Goldstone are so angry - you never had the chance. It was a shit hole but it was our shithole.

It had atmosphere and memories and being right in the middle of Hove, gave us a sense of place.

I really hope Falmer will mean as much to you in 10 or 20 or 30 years time.

Still, it doesn't take 3 weeks take-home pay to buy a 20" TV like it did 25 years ago! Is that you? Reminds me of the strip in my first season, 1968-9 (East Terrace admission 20p adults, 10p boys)..........hmm, maybe prices haven't all gone your way!

A pedant writes, that would be 4/- & 2/-. That's in the old £sd as decimal was still a few years away. Seems somewhat strange putting it that way again.
