Surely it would be BETTER if there were NO goal posts? The BEAUTIFUL GAME would then be PERFECT.

As I recall it, STANTions were the metal posts used at Withdean for supporting Phil, after another of his lung-bursting 10-yard sprints.

Absolutely agree, as I pine for the days when all stadiums seemed to have their own unique goals, and I could make a decent stab at guessing teh ground, simply from the goals.

However, when they were digging the holes for the posts, I noticed the second holes (presumably for the stantions) were wider apart than the goalposts, which suggests to me that they will be Eurogoal style posts, holding the netting in place.

Isn't this a rule, an edict from the football authorities, like the one banning hooks on the crossbar for holding on the nets, all to do with mssrs H & S
