The initial plan to run with the current system was to miss 2011 and then festival in 2012. because of security shortage due to the Olympics, they rescheduled to miss 2012 and have it in 2011, then revert to there 3 years and a gap system.

Not strictly true, from what I read. They were due to have a "fallow" year in 2011, but decided to move it to 2012 becaase of the Olympics - more to do with policing than toiletsl, I gather.

It was always the plan not to have a festival in 2012. Michael Eavis always has a fallow year to allow the farm to regenerate and decided to coincide this with the 2012 Olympics. Non story.
