Thanks - I've read a few of the reviews on Amazon and this looks like a fantastic book. I will be buying as soon as I finish my dissertation (if I buy it before, I will not get my more important reading finished!).

There is a sequel too.

Timewaster is a good read but funniest of all time...nope.

Get Spike Milligans war memoirs..haven't ever laughed so hard.

Hitler: My Part in his downfall
Monty: My Part in his Victory
Mussolini: His part in my downfall

I've always though Spike Milligan was vastly over-rated. But I also find stuff like Monty Python unfunny.

What he said. laugh out loud funny stuff in there.

I haven't read the Timewaster letters but I will get it from Amazon (through the NSC link, of course!) but does anyone remember the Root Letters by Henry Root?

The Timewaster Diaries are also a good read if you want to find out more about Mrs Cooper's ankle problem, and check up on his octopus, Rafferty.

the only book I have ever had to put down as I wa slaughing so much that it hurt was Ancestral Vices by Tom Sharpe.

In fact most of the Tom Sharpe books, especially the ones about South Africa are bloody hilarious

Maybe not the funniest books ever, but they provide a chuckle or five...

McCarthy's Bar and The Road to McCarthy. Sadly Pete McCarthy (former resident of Brighton) died of cancer in 2004 before he was able to print a third book. :(
