From Cambs police :-

" Thank you for your email.

At this stage there is no plans to escort away fans to a particular pub. However, if a large group of football fans from Brighton turn up and they are known as Risk[hooligan] supporters then the police will deal with this group accordingly which may mean escorting them to a particular pub, monitoring them throughout the day and escort them to the football ground.

We hope this answers your question.

Kind regards

Emailed the police

1) You've just made yourselves look more suspicious by asking this
2) Does some divvy that answers a webform, really have any kind of authority over what happens on the day ?

Well, the only time I've ever been punched at a football match was away at Peterborough. Walked into an 'ambush' outside a pub on the ring road back to the station. The police had advised us, in their infinite wisdom, to avoid the town centre and use the ring road instead. Good work :shootself

.

Remember that so well, ELS. Good to see you in the pub, Saturday.

It did used to be a bit nawty up there in the 70's and my 1st 2 visits were certainly dodgy and i once had to jump into the back of a car to escape an ambush, much to the shock of the elderly driver, who at least whisked me away!

We didn't have many up in those days and I always thought how I'd like to be there when we go enmasse, which is what eventually happened and it was mayhem.

Have always had a good following up there since but wary of small mobs of locals after an ambush.

I'll be on the road this time and would quite fancy a decent pub out of town, any suggestions?

Not sure if it's the same time as you were punched but I've had that as well, about 1999-2000ish, I didn't get hit though :lolol:

You walk round the ringroad and their fans are outside the beehive and it kicks off - well done police :lolol:

Anyone know if Bert Murray is still running his pub? Mind you, it is/was in Market Deeping which is the wrong side of Peterborough for those coming up from the south.

not sure if it still happens but there's a group of about 20 - 30 boro fans who stand just next to where the away fans are seated - Stone Island, etc. In previous years they have been watched and filmed by the police all the time. They tend to leave about 10 minutes before the end, followed by the police. The police then follow them wherever they go. I remember a few years ago the cops saying to them (I was in ear shot ) "where we off to then lads, a little walk round town again?". Fans made no attempt to escape or shake them off but seemed to like being centre of attraction.

Can I ask, did you seriously take the time to send them this question? Or am I missing something and the joke has sailed well over my head?
