Fran Sandaza set to join Rangers

FRAN SANDAZA will jet into Scotland today for signing talks with Rangers boss Ally McCoist.

The Spaniard is likely to turn down an offer from Hercules in his homeland to sign a four-year deal at Ibrox.

SunSport revealed three weeks ago that McCoist had rekindled his interest and a deal was put on the table over the weekend for the 27-year-old.

Sandaza is a free agent after leaving St Johnstone at the end of last season and has had offers from Spain, Belgium, Turkey and Ukraine.

McCoist is set to beat off that interest to land the forward he has targeted to spearhead Rangers’ rise back through the leagues.

The Light Blues had initially offered Sandaza a three-year contract, but have added another 12 months to the deal after Hercules made their interest known in the man who hit 18 goals for Saints last seasonand helped fire the Perth side into Europe.

He first came to Scotland in 2008 to sign for Dundee United following a successful spell with Valencia’s B side — but after a good first season struggled with injury.

And with Rangers’ signing embargo lifted until the end of the month, McCoist appears to have won the race for his signature.

Surely going to score bucket loads.

(Loving the picture BTW)

He's getting a disgusting £250k a year. This is for a club that went into liquidation and defaulted on debts. Shouldn't be allowed.

I always liked Sandaza personally, think he'll do quality for them no matter what league they're in.

You can argue the toss with this one, but technically, it is a different club/company/set of owners.

Didnt exactly do great for us, but he is turning into quite a good player. Seeing as we need presence up front, would you take him back? Is he the type of player needed to fully unleash CMS?

What a joke. So basically he didn't join Rangers last year because he got a heads up about the financial situation, so he waits till all the existing Rangers players have gone in order to safeguard their own (admittedly huge) incomes, and the club have written off all their debts screwing over all sorts of people in the process, then decides to go there, turning down better football offers from elsewhere, for a load of cash. Twat.

he's "turning into a good player" in SCOTLAND.....he only looks good because he's up against a miscellaneous collection of carthorses

thought he was remarkably average for us (in a REAL football league)

The thing with Rangers is that they have been punished. A lot of people here are saying Pompey should start at the bottom and start again - which is exactly what Rangers are doing. The fact is, Rangers should have enough money to pay £250k a year to a player like Fran. The previous owners just totally screwed it up.

There's no winners with this, except Scottish football in general. If Rangers can fall, the other clubs know they can't f*** around either. If the Football League had done the same with the first club that went into administration in England it's possible the Pompey debacle wouldn't have happened.

Thing is though, the majority of the creditors that have been screwed over couldn't give a toss which division Rangers are playing their football in. What they will care about is that Rangers are going to pay a player that they don't need that sort of money, which is more than what they owe the majority of the creditors.

I appreciate that, and it's shit for the creditors. But Rangers have been punished, and the new owners could argue that what happened before isn't their fault. Rangers should easily have the money to pay £250k a year for a few players given their fan base. Pompey on the other hand...

I wish clubs were relegated to the lowest tier in England too when administration hits. I bet clubs will soon clean their acts up

People seem to be missing the point that the current Rangers are a completely different company to the one that screwed everone over. As a result, they aren't starting in the Scotts Prem league, they are in the basement and will not be competing for the prem title for at least 4 seasons. The knock on effect is that they won't attract players and are therefore unlikely to reach the cup final which would be their only gateway to europe and the money that offers. As for it being good for scottish football, it depends how you read it. There will be considerably less money in the game so fewer overseas players will be attracted to the Premier league which is in effect a one horse race at the moment. Of course, the lack of foreign players will give opportunity to younger scottish players but will that improve the international team, unlikely.

What would be good would be if the Football League and Premier League introduced automatic relegation instead of a 10 pt penalty.

Agree and disagree. Agree on the auto-relegation point. Its a much more immediate deterrant for abhorrent transfer behaviour. As for Rangers being a new club, I disagree. Technically, they are a new club and they have served (or are likely to serve) their punishment. However, they will retain their titles and the prestige of Glasgow Rangers. The only difference between the "new" and the "old", is their division, a division they'll canter though with reletive ease.

So no, the owners of this Rangers did not screw over anyone, but they are still the same club.
