I'd take Mrs Richards in COMMUNICATION PROBLEMS over the Germans all day every day
Me too

'What did you expect to see from a Torquay hotel bedroom window? The Sydney Opera House, perhaps? Tha hanging gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically...'

Most episodes have some large part where the humour is a bit cringeworthy, while this one is consistently quality from start to finish. In my book the best one of the whole lot

'Is this a piece of your brain?'

I agree

I thought Gournet Night was superb. Beautifully done, with Basil trying to have less "riff raff" in the hotel, combined with the usual utter chaos.

The Germans gets all the headlines, and wins this no doubt, and is very very good, but I don't think it was the best episode.

Abso-bloody-exactly

wasn't the bit where he attacks his car in Gourmet night voted one of the best ever scenes in one of those shitty top 100 whatever things? As you say, superb episode

The germans IS brilliant but I always have a sneaking suspicion that a lot of people like it just cos he's rude to Germans in it. Taking nothing away from it because it is excellent.

The Germans has some good bits and the stuff with the Moose head is hilarious.

But for overall sheer quality it has to be Communication Problems with Mrs Richards.

The Germans did have the classic line though:

"Vill you PLEASE stop going on about ze var !"
"Well, you started it"
"No ve did NOT"
"Yes you did. You invaded Poland"

The Germans will, of course, win, but I personally think Communication Problems is much funnier.

...which really isn't all that funny IMO.

Well I laughed like a DRAIN
I also loved it when Basil muttered to Mrs Richards that he was going to "come round one night and stick a BAT up your nightdress".

:lolol:

Which is the one where he replies to Sybil with "yes my little piranha fish".

Absolutely marvellous.

Cracking stuff, I still laugh at that even now. Although communications is also very good. Would have been a worthy final.

'Basil - it's Mrs Richards'
'A fatal accident?'

And one which my wife still accuses me of using to this day:

'Basil used to bet but he doesn't any more, do you Basil?'
'No - that particular avenue of pleasure has been closed off'
'And we don't want it opened up again, do we dear?'
'No you don't dear'
