Surprised no ones mentioned Apocalypse Now ,my favourite war film and actually on of my favourite films ever!

There is one, the six hour version of Das Boot (with sub-titles) which is so far ahead of all the others it is ridiculous.

I love some of the american films of the 70' s - absolute junk but very watchable - Tora, Tora, Tora, the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of Midway.

OH! What a Lovely War!

Actually an anti-war film. One of the best films ever made in my opinion, and filmed on the West pier. If you can watch the closing scenes filmed on the downs without a lump in your throat you must be made of stone.

But it's never on the tellybox!
