What's a scallion?

The ONE THING that I've never understood about the south of England is that most of the population down here don't know what a scallion is.

I can understand ignorance about netties, but scallions? Unbelievable.

We call them scallions in our house, thought that it was an Irish thing, not necessarily something from oop north.

For me it has to be a little butter and a lot of cheese.

Only two variety of potato are acceptable for a jacket potato in the barnet househould.

What's a netties?

Bake as normal. Scoop out inside, mash up with cheese, bacon and mushroom, put the mix back into the potato skin, worcestor sauce on top and back into oven for ten mins. Bloody marvelous.
