extra seats at withdean

at long last there is some movement on the plans to provide extra seats and other facilities at withdean. the city council has advertised the clubs plans to use the top part of carden avenue as a park and ride site for 200 cars and is inviting representations . carden avenue will be closed with all traffic routed along crowhurst road , past the entrance to asda.

undoubtedbly some of the stores in the area will object so we need to counter this . we are not planning a mass, pre printed letter campaign , but a hundred or more individual letters will be very useful indeed . so, we are asking you to write a brief letter to

director of enviroment (ref. mr p bloxham)
traffic team
hove town hall

asking for the plans for carden avenue to be approved

please do this within the next two weeks at the latest

I suspect that support for extra seats might be waning slightly what with the recent "less than sellout" crowds at Withdean.

Foregone conclusion. Council already approved it once.

9,000 capacity would make for a better atmosphere - hence more interest.

Even with the pathetic away support from most teams in Div 2, it should mean we can get crowds of 8000-8500 - which would be nice!

it should also help improve the atmosphere, with fans on all four sides, and the away support up near the 'singing' sections.

And it might even help keep season ticket price rises down - as they know they will have an extra 2000 to shift ?

And it's the next step towards trying to sell 12,000-15,000 tickets for home games in a few years time!

Not this season. Not next season either unless The Great Deadwood Clearout takes place. Wouldn't be a lot of extra takers for another season of long hoofs and short corners methinks. But presumably the club have A Cunning Plan to put bums on these seats. Which must surely mean investing a bit of dosh in making the playing side a tad more attractive to the non-committed. Hoorah!

It normal terms we could triple the crowd,but in real life the withdean is a dump and everyone see's high prices and no investment in the team and reckon its run its course.

If we can get bums in seats it'll significantly up the income from gate reciepets. £20.00 x 2000 = £40,000? That's £920,000 more a season.

remember that attendance WILL increase because the away teams will bring more support - i am sure that both QPR and plymouth would bring 3000 if they could ! Sure a few others in the league would certainly bring more than the 800 limit too.


having the away section next to the singing section will also massively increase atmosphere - Im looking forward to it

Away fans are allowed 10% of capacity of stadium so that would make 200 seat's there's theretically speaking

Nope. The West Stand will be given to away fans. So they'll be able to bring 1,000 down to us next season. Have a better view and have a roof. Hopefully that'll intice them a bit.

Run that again it cost £1 million to build what excactly as these are hired seats i gather and surely the club don't have 1p nevermind 1 million.

4-5 years at the withdean crying out for more seats then they get the go ahead etc for falmer and spend £1 million errrrr no chance and thats all tosh my son.
