Exceptionally DULL question about Southwark...

I might be spending a Saturday night in a Travelodge in Southwark next month (its my glamourous jetset lifestyle you see).

Anyway, it'd be quite handy if I could take the car up there instead of the choo-choo. There's no carpark at the Travelodge, so my question is this. Does anyone know if there's any street-parking in the area, or is it all restricted / residents-only type thing ? I don't mind a bit of a walk (within reason) from car to tacky motel. But I don't want to be paying for overnight carparks and suchforth if I can get away with it.

See, told you it was dull.

Easy - just moved from Southwark Bridge Road having been there for about a year. If you are at the travel lodge just down from Southwark tube station opposite the Lord Nelson pub then you may struggle with parking. It is almost all resident parking and it is policed by Nazi's. They will tow anything that is parked either illiegally or with no permit.

There is an overnight car park about 100 yards down on Union Street which will cost you about £7 for the night. It may be worth the investment.

By the way I recommend a pub called the Hope and Anchor on The Cut- about a 5 minute walk and if you are hungry Taz is always a good option. There is also Cassa Phillipe which is a fantastic Tapas Bar and a couple of good Ruby options.

I was born in Southwark!

There is street parking in plently of areas there, but you won't necessarily find all four wheels on your car when you return to it.

Cheers gents. It is indeed the one opposite the Lord Nelson.
Arriving Saturday morning and leaving Sunday afternoon / evening, so I'm guessing the Union Street carpark will be considerably more than £7, although it might still be worth it rather than train fares. I shall stroke my chins and give due consideration.

After petrol (wrong side of £30?) and parking (£10...?), the train might well be cheaper - especially if you book it now.

You'd be better off catching the train to London Bridge.

I work just down the road from there behind thge OXO tower. Street parking would be difficult and dodgy. It's only 10 minutes walk from London Bridge so I would get the train.

Yes, good food and pub options on The Cut. Hope + Anchor is the original gastro pub (and is better than this sounds) but Casa Phillipe is superb and I would recommend. Again about a 10 minute walk from the hotel.

I was once double charged for the porn channel at that travelodge, so check your bill carefully before you pay :lolol:

Doubt I'll be eating in or around there, its just a base for a trip into central London for the weekend, seeing a show etc, so grub-wise it'll probably be somewhere around Leicester Square or Covent Garden, in the evening at least. Perhaps train is going to be sensibeler.

I'm a bit of a ponce anyway TLO, as you know.
