It’s so annoying - he played too much high level intense football too young, as I kept saying at the time. Especially with his build, ankle injuries were always going to happen.

Hopefully comes back fully fit and firing and not before he’s fully ready.

Him suffering ankle injuries has nothing to do with playing too much.

His first was down to Fabinho's awful tackle from behind. God knows how the Liverpool player didn't receive a stonewall red card.

The second was bad luck, getting tapped in mid air by Chelsea's Forfana, which caused him to land awkwardly and roll his ankle. An accident which could have happened to any player.

To blame his injuries on overuse is wrong. However, to allow him to play before the second injury was fully resolved might be cause for criticism.

But he was always more likely to pick up ankle injuries because of his age, build and playing too much as he wasn’t fully developed, that’s the point. Yes ankle accident injuries can happen to anyone but he was always more likely to suffer from them and because of those factors, his recovery would take longer.

There’s a post on this thread I made in September last year saying this would happen, long before his form dropped off a cliff and his sustained absence. He was mis-managed and played too much by club and international managers.

He was f***ing awesome that day at Chelsea. Might just my fave RDZ performance. Could've done them 5-1.

He was. Its easy to forget just how good he can be.

Fully fit and playing in a system that suits his game he was touted to be a potential £100m player.

Let's hope that his operation will allow him to get back to that level again.

Accordingly to Fantasy Football injury forecasting he won’t be back until early October. They don’t usually put dates unless they have been given insider info.
Given he;s already training on the grass - the tweet photo was taken on July 17/18th then a minimum 11 week recovery time from here seems cautious in the extreme. But fingers crossed.

PS: you can see the injury predictions via

March and Estupinan are due back on Sept 14th and Ferguson on Oct 5th according to this particular source. Fair enough for March who has been out for ages - impossible to give a date but he too has been training on the grass for a couple of weeks. Estupinan had an operation and isn't training yet.

And you know this - because ? I've no idea but you seem absolutely certain that RDZ , the Albion medical team, Stephen Kenny etc should have known better.

Given that Ferguson looked like a disconnected fridge for about five months and that all of these Albion people have seemingly been told to f*** off, there's certainly some indication that someone should have known something better.

I don’t know just questioning the certainty with which some - who don’t work at the club, with the players, aren’t specialists - want to apportion blame on here for injuries, form or development of our young players.

As someone who's suffered the long-term fatigue effects of glandular fever (one/two out of ten seem to end up with them) I'm amazed Evan even made it to the bench at the tail end of 2003/beginning of 2024. Most days I decided against leaving bed for the 20 second trip to the bathroom to pour myself a glass of water.
Genuine question: was it ever confirmed that he had glandular fever? It would explain a lot if so. All I recall were mentions of the possibility.

I'm on the same page as you with this one

That challenge from Fabinho was one of the worst fouls i've seen in recent times at the Amex.

I do question whether he should have been playing a few weeks later at Chelsea though

Now that you asked I did five minutes of googling, and it seems you’re right. I can’t find proper confirmation anywhere, just speculation.

I was so sure it was a sure thing, but I’ve certainly never won any awards for an amazing memory, apologies for spreading misinformation!

I have a memory about him playing on injections was mentioned somewhere when he was ruled out for the rest of the season, but can't find it so maybe its my mind ghost.
Mr Archivist might know. @AZ Gull ?
I did make a post a while ago that catalogued his injuries and illnesses, but I don't remember seeing anything about injections.

From his social media today it seems he is currently in Marbella, which is a bit odd. Can't imagine he is on holiday. I wonder if the U-18s have a training camp and he has gone with them?

The one at Chelsea, whilst not as bad as Fabinho’s, was awful .imo a stonewall penalty and potential red card.

Good. He's most likely in the hands of John "The Fix" Haddad who is a very competent man.

Combine that with playing through the pain of an ancle injury, and I for one will be very lenient in my verdict of Ferguson's last season, and I can't wait to see him fully fit again come August!

Edit: Ok, maybe September/October.
Conversely I remember playing rugby when I was still suffering from glandular fever. Whenever I took a decent knock that hurt rather than get straight up I'd think to myself 'that's worth a minute lying down' and had a little breather.

Not pleasant watching . . . Totally deliberate. Worse than Cantonas 'tackle' on that Palace ****.

he's a proper centre forward and I really hope he gets back to where he was before the injuries and we can play to his strengths, at least some of the time!

...and to expand on this...

John Haddad is known inside football (and he's had some media publicity as well IIRC) as someone who with slightly unconventional but very high tech methods can solve complicated issues in athletes. He also helps them optimise how they run and move to prevent further unnecessary injuries. He is probably most known for helping Erling Haaland but obviously its not his only client.

Perhaps shouldn't have called him competent as feck do I know, but he has a great reputation. Afaik not met anyone who has worked with him... he's not exactly within Allsvenskan rehab budgets.

Pervis' Instagram story today is also tagged as Marbella, so presumably he is there with Ferguson (and maybe other recovering players*) doing rehab?

*Not Joao Pedro, as his stories seem to be socials with friends
