I can understand fans of other teams doing it, but in the early part of the 19th Century the Southern League was on a par with the Football League and so you can add around 20 years to us for that.

And as for the posts above talking about the Prem in isolation. WHY?!

So next season (in pure Premier League terms because we all know football only started in 1992) we'll be tied for Premier League seasons with Sheffield United, Nottingham Forest, Ipswich Town and Hull City (plus Bournemouth if they fail to go up), although only Bournemouth managed that in one spell.

Incidentally, #Twats managed 7 seasons in one spell in the Premier League. Be nice to beat them...

I think your definition is a little bit more black and white then mine; it was more about when will we be viewed as a solid, established team to transfer too and have a bit more clout as a premier league presence.

I reckon when we're not automatically put in the relegation battle bracket. Give us a couple of solid mid table seasons and I think we'll be given the 'established' tag.

Seems to me though that once you get that tag you end up getting relegated not long after...

Either by number of seasons in the top flight (including a lot of years post 92) or do a Leicester and break the mould or have supplied three huge players to the world cup winning England side - West Ham. Regular Europa League appearances if you're not part of the Toxic six. And If you just exist in the top flight you're never established unless you have any of the things above.

Love the final two words of your post, Toxic Six.

So true as well.

I'm always astonished by just how many years west brom have spent in the top fight. They're like the top flight Barnsley who are another club that have consistently played at a higher level than I think they have(76 of their 111 year history has been spent in the second tier).

You are an established side when you have more fans in the suburbs of Hertfordshire and Kent than within 50 miles of your ground. When you sell more shirts in Malaysia and Singapore than in your home county/borough/city. When your players appear on billboards in Tokyo and Cairo.

It's more to do with expected placing. West Brom clearly are not established in the Premier League, no matter the number of top flight seasons they've had.

Coventry had 34 seasons in the top flight, but regularly were on the verge of going down - were they ever considered "established" in the top flight?

I think what it takes is to finish out of the bottom set a few times in a row to be established or maybe get 45+ points in several seasons. We're not there yet.

Blackpool are notable outsider as well, with something like 28 years.
Preston are up there too with 46

I think it matters how many years a club has been there in a row so not sure those tables mean a huge amount, personally speaking.

I think Palace are seen as an established PL side, they have also taken over Pompey’s mantle as the most intimidating ground, with the best fans in the country. I know this is true because the more run down and grim your stadium is the more intimidating it is, all the ex player pundits peddle this myth too
