Racism is a belief system that people of some races are inherently superior than those of other races.
Sometimes, similar or same words are used in quite different ways. The word 'black' is not generally seen as negative, but to call someone a black b****** would imply being black was something to be ashamed of. Similarly, saying someone is a p*** is generally insulting, but there seems to be scores of people who have used that word in contexts such as "I'm going to the p*** shop" without meaning anything negative by it; this can cause difficulties for people who have only heard the word in negative contexts. The difference between n***** and nigga is also a world of difference. What matters is what is behind the words.
The humour being used with Elliott Bennett comes from the fact his team mates are using sounds and objects previously used in a racist way, but now used in a much more innocent way. They are, in effect, stripping some age-old banter of their racist meaning. That's about as non-racist as you can get. The fact his team mates can make such a joke knowing he won't take it the wrong way is a reminder of their close-knit friendship within the squad, so serves the purpose of bringing them even closer together.
Of course, not everyone is not party to that close-knit friendship or even to that understanding, so if some Albion fans take that private joke public by monkey-chanting Bennett today, it may be taken the wrong way by people who haven't read the Argus.
