At no point has Dickinson actually said they do they monkey chants because of his skin colour, he says they do it because of the fact he loves bannanas.

But then again, if a white guy loved banannas as much as Bennett would he recieve the same chants?

Racism is all about intent, if the Norwich fans started doing the same thing to him on Saturday to try and put him off it would certainly be racist, but since its meant in jest over his love of bananas (and the fact Dickinson looks more like a monkey imo) and both parties see it that way then it isn't racist. Well there's nothing 'wrong' with it, but its not exactly socially acceptable when considering the history of racist violence from white people against black people and slavery and things like that. Of course, people go wildly over the top about such things, but you won't be doing yourself any favours by comparing a black person to a monkey...

Does anyone else remember bananas being thrown on the pitch at the last game at the Goldstone, I think it was just after Ian Baird had been sent off along with a cloured Doncaster player. Or is my memory playing tricks. It was down near the touchline by the West Stand as I recall.

But to the point of the thread it is not racist at all. It's jut people who have a healthy respect for each other taking the piss out of someone who loves bananas like a monkey does and therefore immitating a monkey is funny. It's society that makes this supposedly racist, and perhaps even the original poster of this thread!

Does anyone else remember bananas being thrown on the pitch at the last game at the Goldstone, I think it was just after Ian Baird had been sent off along with a cloured Doncaster player. Or is my memory playing tricks. It was down near the touchline by the West Stand as I recall.

The opposing player was Darren Moore, who went on to play in the Premier League with Pompey amongst others, if I remember correctly.
