election francaise

Marvellous scenes.

Or in plain English ...

1. Nicolas Sarkozy 29.5%
2. Ségolène Royal 26.3%
3. François Bayrou 18.8%
4. Jean-Marie Le Pen less than 10%

The top two go through to the final round of voting.

These are just exit poll results, but I think there's an official exit poll in France, which means it ought to be pretty reliable.

I predict Sarko to WIN and WIN WELL in the second round now. The opinion polls have always given him a clear lead over Royal; whereas he was the only candidate she never seemed likely to beat.

sarkozy now predicted 30% and segolene 25.2%.

a good result for the socialists given she was written off a few weeks ago.

le pen doesn't look happy!

The final result depends on how many Bayrou and Le Pen voters transfer to Royal. I think NONE of them will.

a bit of a wild prediction. i know at least one bayrou voter going to segolene.

it's going to be closer than you think. he's a nasty piece of work and the french left and centre won't accept him easily. look at the turnout today for example.

two weeks time will be tight.

sadly i think sarko will win though

If Sakorzy does,it will the death of France. I find it hard to warm to Royal but for our neighbour's sake I hope she beats him.

This is easier to understand than NSC's Squire's pronouncements on the planning law implications concerning Falmer.

Why do you say that? There is a huge brain drain going on in France at the moment. All those with any ambition are fleeing to other countries. Sakorzy might actually stem the tide.

Though with 10.5% of the votes cast,1 in 10 of those who voted in a large turnout voted for the far right candidate.

And THAT is depressing.

I know, I was expecting at least 2 in 10.
