I was at the Sussex Senior 3rd cup tie last night and Bognor hammered EG 7-0. Tidy side Bognor and well drilled. Fair play.

Saw a few Brighton colours amongst the crowd as well.

East Grinstead 0 Bognor 7

06-12-05

The Rocks marched on into the quarter finals of the Sussex Senior Cup with a seven goal demolition of Sussex County Division Two side East Grinstead, at their East Court home on Tuesday night.

From the side that lost at Weymouth, Jodey Rowland replaced the unavailable David Birmingham on the left and Ben Johnson was given a starting place at the expense of Charlie Balfe. Again, both Luke Nightingale and Craig Stoner did not feature.

The gulf of four leagues between the two sides was all too evident, yet it was the home side that almost opened the scoring inside the first minute when Barry Leete was sent through on goal and with just 'keeper Chris May to beat, he fired his low shot straight at May, who blocked the effort with his left boot.

It was the wake-up call Bognor needed and they were ahead on 13 minutes when a free-kick was cleared only as far as Darren Budd who found the top left-hand corner from 20 yards - his first of the season.

Top scorer in all competitions Ben Watson then added a second two minutes later when he rounded home 'keeper Tidy, to slot home goal number two.

In the 35th minute, it was 3-0 when after Watson was brought down, the referee pointed to the spot and Watson sent the 'keeper the wrong way. Watson then completed his hat-trick before half-time with a free header to make it 4-0, from close range after a fine cross from the left.

Dan Beck lobbed a neat fifth in the 59th minute, Watson tapped home Richard Hudson's cross on 76 minutes for his fourth of the match and Hudson scored from the spot in the 79th minute after Grant Hearn was adjudged to have handled in the area..

Jack Pearce was full of praise for East Grinstead and said "Every one of them were a credit to themselves and their club. They tried to play football, they never resorted to trying to kick lumps out of us. Their spirit and attitude was superb." Team : May, Piper (sub Kirkwood), Rowland, Budd, Johnson, Murphy (sub Kilpartrick), Watson, M. Birmingham, Hudson, Howell (sub Balfe), Beck. Sub not used : Hunwick.

I noticed Ben Watson (released by Brighton in summer) scored 4 goals last night making 22 goals for Bognor this season!
