What matters about Brighton to New Labour is the performance of the City Council. The government likes to see its pet projects piloted by a few co-operative councils. Brighton & Hove are one of them. They deliver a good transport policy that the government approves of. They get involved in Social Exclusion initiatives. They are signed up to all the right anti-social behaviour projects.

These things matter to Prescott.

Something needs to be sorted out about Brighton & Hove City Council's Education Department's attitude to one of the Government's pet projects - diversity in education.

The Government CHOOSES Brighton & Hove to pilot its pet projects.

In the particular instance that's in your mind, it seems that the LEA's officers don't understand the opportunity that is being presented to them.

Daisy may need to do some local campaigning. Whilst "WESTDENE FOR ALL" might be what she wants, it's probably a slogan that could easily be misunderstood. Especially on NSC!
