Well, after careful cosideration, taking in all the expert advice, we have decided to leave Brighton at 9.30 am, hopefully arriving no later than 1.30pm, so as to paticipate in some ale consumption.

I thank you all. :drink::drink:

Out of interest don't hang about but don't bust it either and post the time :thumbsup:

Well I used to live there (hence the name) and the quickest I ever did it was 3h 15mins... But I'm not much of one for speeding. The slowest was 8 hours, on a Friday evening. I always take the A1, then the A52 which is slightly further but quieter and better road with no roadworks. I'd bet on 4 1/2 hours with bank holiday traffic.

Having looked on the aa route planner, the M11/A1 route is only 11 miles further than the M1. It avoids the bad side of the M25, the roadworks on the M1, and brings you in the right side of Nottingham so definitely the better route.

I find viaMichelin quite consistent with their estimates. That is fairly regularly optimistic compared with my driving speed, in this country I add add 10 or 15 mins per hour, in Europe I fall further behind (I'm not very keen on joining in one of those characteristically gruesome French or Spanish super-accidents).

Plus, if you have a smash on the M11 this weekend, it'll be ME cutting you out of your car :thumbsup:

Preferential treatment for anyone in an Albion shirt :)

Have they re-opened the M40 junction with the M25 southbound junction yet? On the way back from Carlisle and Huddersfield there were signs to say it was closed due to roadworks.
It's fine going north.
