just checked the video of the incident -
no bannanas thrown - lots of punches being thrown by both sets of players.
terrace in front of the incident is empty.
Its in the past... events turned on that day and we've been close ever since. Dont let anything spoil that.
A banana was definatly thrown .I was standing on the South West terrace and it seemed to come from the seats in the West stand just above the North West terrace. I thought it odd considering the occasion that somebody had one ready , so I can only assume they brought it in to eat. It was thrown as Moore and Baird came together after the tackle and before they were both sent off. It bounces on the grass just below Moore's thigh. It is included in that piece of footage that was posted on here re the last game a couple of weeks ago.
It was intimidating to start with, but I never thought that the players flag was a cynical, Richardscum ploy. I was pleased with it though, because it helped calm things down.
As for the bananas thing... you have to remember that attitudes to racism were different back then. It would be totally unacceptable now, and quite right too.
me and a mate took 4 coaches to gillingham for the valetines love in! Good drink with the donnie and no fruit based problems!
one banana two banana three banana four banana la la la la lal la la THAT WAS THE MID SUSSEX BANANA SONG! it went with alot of silly dancing
This. Worst I saw for racism was at Deepdale. Bless the backward fools. No, this was only 14 years ago. It was totally unacceptable then, too.
I'm afraid you must have had rose-tinted earoles in those early years. It is a very sad and shameful fact that when black players first started to appear more widely in the game, during the late 70s, but were still something of a rare sight, monkey noises from the terraces were commonplace. The North stand was not imune from this.35 years of following bha, never ever heard any racial abuse,or do i know of anyone of doing so,home or away
Coloured? Was he wearing face paint, Adam Ant style? They were aimed towards another coloured defender
