Doing "stuff" on your own

Over there
We were having a chat at work today about the cinema and quite a few people thought I was sad that I sometimes enjoy going on my own to watch a film or have a beer on my Tod.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love family and friend get togethers but I'm just as comfortable in my own company.
Am I sad to like a beer or film on my own or do others feel the same?

Going to see a film alone is not sad.

Not sure I'd choose to sit in a pub on my own, out of choice. saying that, I regularly sit on my own for an hour in a Starbucks or somewhere with a coffee, using the wi-fi, so I suppose its not hugely different.

I'd happily go to the cinema on my own - as it's hardly a social experience watching a movie. However, I'd find it odd and sad were I to go for a drink in a pub alone. Just my own feelings, no judgement on you.

I like my own company and I find certain activities I enjoy the most on my own, e.g. going to the gym, shopping and I have been to quite a few Brighton games on my tod (but not out of choice.)

But for me I couldn't go to the cinema alone.

Sometimes I will just go for a walk on my own just to get some space and find it easier to think that way. But that is not really doing anything ???

I once went to the pub alone to watch some football when at uni but was incredibly dull and will not be doing that again

You bastard :)
I kind of know what you mean you often see many sad seedy old blokes nursing a beer in the corner. But on occasions I have been known to have a beer and peruse The Times. Sad or not I kind of like it. Rarely happens now days, but when it does I savour the man time away from wife and kids

I guess were I in the right pub where I could:

Use the wifi on a laptop or similar
Read a book
Read a newspaper

I could do it - but I guess it depends what you get from a pub, for me it's to socialise.

I think going to the cinema alone is fine - its a strange thing to do in a group or even as a couple...

I go to the pub a lot on my own, nothing wrong with it, especially after a crap day at work, and the missus will meet me a bit later after I've had a couple.

I even met my missus when I was drinking in a pub on my own and I just started chatting to her and her friend.

A pub is for drinking and socialising. I've moved from brighton to Burgess hill 3 months ago, its hard to meet up with old friends for drinks on the weekend as the last train is 11.10 and a taxi is too expensive.

I'm quite a chatty person and find it easy to talk to people so going to the pub on my own hasn't been weird and has enabled me to meet a new circle of friends and widen my social life.

It also helps that I don't like drinking at home, I prefer pints from glasses and being around other people.

No it's not. I always go to football on my own. It's because nobody I know likes football or could afford to get a season ticket at the very start.
Everyone else seems to arrive with their partners on match day :lolol:.

I spend a fair amount of time away on business so inevitably end up dining etc on my own.

I can't say it bothers me too much but it's never the same staying in a fancy hotel or going somewhere interesting if you can't share the experience.

I think having a pint on my own, reading the paper in The Stanley Arms Fishersgate, one of life's treats.
I do the same thing; pint of Harveys in the Cleveland and read the paper. I don't do it that often, no more than once a month, (usually when the Mrs is working) but as you say it's a real treat. Indeed I'm often a bit 'irritated' if someone I know comes in and I have to talk to them!

My girlfriend does most things on her own. Usually locking herself in the bedroom and crying.

I go the cinema more often than not, unless someone else.is.available to go too. I like having someone to talk to about it, but enjoy going on my own at times too. Depending on the film. I wouldn't feel confident in a pub on my own though. I go to football alone, home and away when I can, although recently I've gone with others to away trips. I have always been happier in my own company, but I'm not a social outcast in that I can't function around others. I think if I were to meet a girl like me, it would be very different. But I haven't, so...

Quite enjoy a few pints on my own on a Saturday afternoon with a paper and a bit of people watching. Used to do it a lot but too expensive to do it much these days. I go to the cinema on my own too. I like my own company but if I've not seen friends for a few days I do like to meet up for pints etc. I often go and check out places around the area on my own too, Hill forts, ancient monuments etc.
