Lord Bracknell
On fire
The real point about the student residences is that it demonstrates the slipperiness of Charlie Hopkins, the Falmer PC lawyer.
Having lost the argument that claimed Falmer village would have worse noise impact than Toads Hole Valley, he suddenly decided to switch away from saying that the Falmer stadium site was "too close to the village" and come up with a cock and bull story that the stadium was "too close to the university buildings".
That's the whole point, Charlie! The site is much closer to the University than the village. It's why we want to build it there.
Anyone who thinks that Falmer villagers have such sympathy for students that they want to preserve peace and quiet to help them study hasn't been listening. Or, if they have, they haven't heard properly, because of the traffic noise on the A27 - which is much closer to these new halls of residence than the stadium will be.
