It was about 20 metres to long for Cav who bagged 5th, Ben Swift got a good 3rd.

Kristoff said a sprint at the end of a 300 km race allows him to get the better of the sprinters who he said are hard to beat over 200 km races

Superb work by Paolini for Kristoff. Kristoff very strong in these kind of sprints.

Ben swift nicks a podium spot from Cav

Canc slamming his handlebars in pure frustration.

Gutted for Degenkolb - could have been his day had he not had the mechanical.

Know we know why Greipel was looking strong going into the Poggio - right on his limits and desperate for a good placing at the foot so he he could hang on. Not enough left in the tank to really contest the sprint.

Wonder who that Bardiani -Volvole (sp.) rider was that slid out on the final bend? :( Battaglin?

Wow, didn't notice Cancellara getting 2nd. Why didn't he go for it earlier? Maybe fancied himself in a group sprint, and was nearly right!

He may well be thinking the same thing. Was slamming his handlebars in pure frustration as he crossed the finish line.

To be fair I don't think he could have gone solo and had a chance. Right decision in the end. Got his podium but probably just frustrated to come so close to winning having made the decision to try to take the sprint.

If ever there was a time for the phrase 'bollox to that' it's got to be sprinting after 300kms in that weather.

Clearly it's not men from boys, so Kristoff was definitely a giant among men.

Nice seventh from Stybar.

I did chuckle when the commentator said 'ZS announced himself at last years Roubaix', he's clearly not a cycling geek!!

Lil miss Stat (7 & 3/4's) has been grizzly all day.
MSR was the acid test.

She sat and watched the last 50kms without a murmur.
Time to crack open the Calpol

Paddy power had kristoff at 100/1, that's like free money!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. But your not wrong though. Did you get on it?

Must admit, I'm kicking myself that I didn't even give him a proper thought. Always good in selective sprints like this, but I somehow convinced myself that a leaner Greipel would finally have the legs to be at the sharp end.

Of course... I had a ton on him!
