Lies, damn lies and statistics. I just keyed my own postcode in and got higher numbers in every category than anybody has posted on here so far.

BUT: How long a period do these numbers cover?
Are they just reported crimes? Crimes with an outcome against them?

And some of the postcodes include much, much higher numbers of people than others, of course.

Always worth zooming in on the things, as some have done here. The numbers for my postcode would make anybody trying to sell their house weep, but zoom into the little triangle of streets where I am, and where there's a decent community spirit and a very active neighbourhood watch, and you've got just 1 burglary and 3 ASBs, all three of which are centred on the local boozer, if the location of the markers is anything to go by.

So these things are interesting but I wouldn't want my house price to depend on them.

Edit: I'm aware of course that these are just reported crimes, or the police wouldn't know about them. It was a rhetorical question.

BRIGHTON
I was living with a friend and her two flatmates, only a spell of two months. Just down the road from Brixton Academy.

I'm not sure how accurate the figures are. Withdean Stadium scores 0 and we have been robbed at least twice this season.

Paul - I lived on Bellefields Road (literally next to the Academy) a couple of years ago - only 1 of my friends got assaulted in the year I lived there and I had no problems. Looks like I was lucky!

Leicester
For my little area of Leicester reads as follows:

All crime and ASB - 1115
Burglary - 77
ASB - 296
Robbery - 14
Vehicle Crime - 40
Violent Crime - 204
Other Crime - 484

Saying all this though I only live a mile or so from the city centre so these figures are warped by any trouble from weekend revellers. Still, its quite funny to see that I reported three of the most local crimes myself. I must get a life.
