Did any one notice that Strauss hit the ball into his pads where it got stuck. He then chucked it to a SA fielder. The ball never touched the ground. Could the fielder have appealed?

The fielder could have appealed for him handling the ball ahead of appealing for any possible catch. What probably happened was that Strauss would indicate that we was going to handle the ball and a SA fieldsman would nod his acceptance.
