Presuambly Savage moved to Crewe from MUFC as he was in the "famous" youth team - Nevilles, Scholes, Butt and Beckham

Yeah, Utd released him at 16 after a horrific car crash. Rather than allow him to recover they just got rid of him. Dario picked him up because 'he could run a lot'. Left on a sour note after he was left on the bench for out 1997 play off final win - apparently saying he would never play for us again.

I would say that was their loss (MUFC) - Savage would be just the sort of player they need at present whilst confidence has been low.

Perhaps he wouldn't be the same player if he hadn't come to Crewe. We pick up these players often, and to some success. We even found a future England captain on the Premiership scrapheap.
