The Premier League is a Worldwide brand and as such will ride above the Credit Crunch which is particularly affecting the U.K.

Remember that for PL clubs gate receipts is just a small fraction of their income.

I think you'll find the current economic downturn is a Worldwide phenomenon.

I'm surprised that the Mancs haven't caught up with the Scousers yet, in the looting and plundering of the millionaires houses while the team are playing in Europe thing. Or maybe Man U have an SAS shoot to kill policy on their employees mansions.

The Mancs have their homes 'protected' by people that you would not want to cross.

It's interesting that Man City are near the bottom and out of the game as regarding competing for a Champions League place. Had they been 4th/5th and spending heavily it might have sparked everyone into action.
But they are after diarra and santa cruz. They hardly expect champs league.

True, but many areas where the PL is huge are not suffering anywhere near as much as the U.K. It is because of this that big worldwide brands like the FAPL will survive this crunch and come out of the other side of it stronger.

The worlds appetite for the best league in the world is as strong as ever.

Ah, appetite is one thing but cash is another.... Sky have paid over the odds in previous contracts with the P L and have pushed all competitors off the radar due to their huge buying power. As times are getting hard they may well offer a couple of hundred million less than the previous deal safe in the knowledge that there is no other buyer in the market. Also it should be remembered that recession IS biting in the Far East too and this was the best growth area for the P L. Suddenly we can't buy all those ipods,mp3 players and cars they are making and so that luxury item (for them) of the new Chelsea strip will have to wait.

Its all a big money-go-round and its ALL slowing down, football, at the top end is a luxury item these days and what happens in a downturn ?.... yep, bye bye luxury

Vodafone have just announced that they will not be renewing their sponsorship of the England cricket team - thats a sign of things to come for the FAPL.

When the big corporates start cutting back and in some cases withdrawing their sponsorship from the Premiership, then things are really going to come to a head.

I think they should do what the banks are doing and start merging to form teams like:
Liverton
Aston Bromwich Albion
Chelsernal Hotspurs

If the 2 East Anglian teams merged would they be called NOR-WICH or IPS - WICH?
