they said it in 1972 when 40 over cricket was introduced

they probably said when test matches were extended from three to four days

That would be my concern. I see no problem with providing more Twenty20 cricket dates, but it has to be evenly spread throughout the season. Like it or not, Twenty20 is the format that will get more people interested in the sport and the money it generates will provide our sporting talent a genuine alternative to playing football (or rugby).
