The manager should have seen the lad's obvious talent and kept him much closer to the First Team squad. His ability to operate at RB or CB would have made him a valuable squad member. Better that we keep and develop one of our own than bring a utlity player like Vincelot.

I can understand him wanting to go to Bournemouth for 1st team football, but if Gus had not been so damned stupid he would still be ours.

A bad, bad, bad decision by Gus ... and not his first.

I'd have liked to keep him but would he get enough first team football to develop when players are back from injury/suspensions? Besides, if he wants to go to Bournemouth where he can very quickly establish himself as a key player and has a chance of getting up to the championship, should we stop him?

Has Steve Cook gone? I didn't know that. It's not like there was a MASSIVE THREAD ON THIS YESTERDAY or anything...

Let me get this straight. You have seen the lad play, what, twice? And Gus, who was a world class footballer with a long career playing for top level clubs, has seen him play every day in training for the last two years, and countless development squad games. Yet you think you are better qualified to make a decision on whether he will become a good enough player to be a regular first teamer in a team with serious Premier League aspirations in the next few years than he is?

There's one person here who is 'damned stupid', and I'll give you a clue- it's not Gus.

First team football and treble the money, COOK should have his head examined too.

He wasn't even a regular on the bench, he did reasonably well against the Stains, but it was not a world beating performance.

The only thing that I am concerned on is whether there is a sell on fee.

To me this shows that the club has the correct attitude - they will not stand in the way of a promising player trying to improve his career elsewhere, even though the club may have selfish SHORT TERM need for him. Good for them.

When the managers job becomes vacant, you could always apply:thumbsup:

As I saw pointed out on Facebook, the fee could rise to £300,000, which is what we paid for Gordon Greer. Recent indiscretions aside, I'd probably say his worth to the club has been more than Steve Cook's.

Think there are some pretty good arguments to support a case that Cook stayed and how he could have been a part of 1st team squad but not worth getting knickers in a twist. It's done and if the reports are correct it's as much to do with Gus honouring the agreement he had ..... I reckon the lad will come good and we might regret but hindsight is a wonderful thing. Good luck to him

I'm disappointed too, but with greer, dunk, el-abd, Elphick and the equally impressive Hall all in his position the club have probably done right by Cook in letting him pursue his career with actual first team football. If he was a specialist full back then we should have kept him, but really he is a centre half, the ONE position we are actually strong in.

I hope he does really well at B'Muff and that we have tacked on a nice sell-on clause.
