The Barclay Twins have an axe to grind both with the British Government and the European Comission. They have invested millions on developing an island in the channel islands, building a castle and basing their business there for tax advantages.
Unfortunately they came up against medieval laws which cover primogenitre rules upon death where by all assets go to the eldest son. One of the twins has sons and daughters and wanted to over throw these old fashioned laws so they put their own candidates up for election on their island and the neighbouring larger island . These candidates subsequently were defeated so out of malice they shut down all the businesses they owned and made everyone redundant.
They are now trying to change these laws though lobbying the British Government and the EU Comission.
