Computer question

Every time I turn my computer on in the morning (XP) it says it was incorrectly shut down and than tires to put all the files in order over the next 30 minutes.

I always shut down in the proper way and have done for the last 4 years on this PC.

Anyone any ideas

have you moved/installed/deleted any software recently, and it maybe got put into wrong folder?

try a defrag (C: - right click properties, then tools..

Put a USB 2 external hard drive on about 2 weeks before this started.
