They'll be playing at the same level next season.

So, the 1977/78 were better I'd have eight of them over seven of the current squad - although that doesn't take into account that Lawrenson, Ward and Horton were much better than anything we've got now. Remember though, that was the squad before the start of the season, not the end of the previous one, Williams and Lawrenson were both close season buys, so we're not comparing like with like.

Eric Steele was a good shot stopper but he was a bit of a shortarse and never a commanding presence. He was soon replaced by Graham Moseley

That is my all time fave Albion line-up. Though the numbers are wrong and there are a few missing, surely? Horton was at 4. Lawrenson at 6. Where is Andy Rollings at 5? Sully was 11. Cattlin would also be in at 2 replacing Ken Tiler. Classic team with those changes, and the one I used to use when I played subbuteo!!

Difficult to put players of one generation alongside those of another - it's a different game now - but Lawro and Wardie would definately be in, and Sully, Horton and Towner would be in with a shout too

to be fair you cant judge them til they have been up there a season .As hardly any of them have played at that level

Potts and Ruggerio also were added over the close season. But as you say, it's a bit too early for this thread, let's see what the squad is for the start of the season and then compare it - and I'll bet there will be more than 15 names as well! (And yes, I accept comparisons between eras are 'for amusement only')

Still, great seeing those names again!

EDIT: And didn't Peter Sayer join at some time as well?
