my company willl make a contribution of only 2.5% of my salary - which is piss poor.

4% which I thought was piss poor. This is a flat rate an doesn't increase with length of service either.

In Australia it is compulsory for an employer to contribute 9%.

On top of that I put in an extra 2%.

I put in 6% though they are trying to get this changed to 7% and they put in 10% but want to decrease this to 7%.

lucky old you - who is it that you work for?

I was a former Railway employee but post privatisation work for Atos Origin. I also pay an additional pension scheme they have to match - protected by the Railways Act of Parliament..........which is nice.

Railway Pensions are apparently one of the best in the land.

Which is why I will not leave my current employer bearing in mind the free travel as well, only way out for me is redundancy or retirement.

BTW contribution is 11.08% not 11.6% as previously stated.

The average employer contribution is the UK is currently 5% according to a benefits survey I read last week.

We currently contribute 4% with the College contributing 7%.

I dont contribute a penny to my pension (widows pension different, at 1.5% of salary). The Govt funds mine, depenedent on length of service and salary.

Oh and I get it at 60.

I work for the Civil Service, which means you pay my pension in taxes.

and how much do you contribute?

I pay 5% and the company matches it.

6% - company only matches up to 2.5% - after that you are on your own.
