not that sure that the young players are all that

Marney - not good enough for the 2nd

Mcphee - Tryer, but ultimately lightweight and rubbish

Harding, Beck - look quite good too early to judge

Wilkinson - his favourite tackle is the 2 footed one!! not great

hammond - looks quite good

Hinsh - best youngster ive seen so far, but can't defend to save his life

Robinson- only youth player im looking forward to seeing more of

Jake Robinson can give you all of that, except the comedy. But if I'd wanted comedy, I'd have gone to Wigan today.
He will do one day, but not just yet.

I watched him get kicked up in the air by Ringmer's rent a thugs last week and he looked spectacular and strong for his years, but he cannot be expected at his tender age to deal with the cut and thrust week in week out carrying a team of dead wood on his own for the rest of the season season at his age.

I think its too early yet to judge how JR will develop under McGhee.

Remember, a new manager looks for results now, he also has to give the other fringe players a go, as some may respond better under him than they did for Coppell, he also must be aware that we have a fair few bits of 'dead wood' and needs to address that situation urgently. With limited funds we cannot critisize him for looking under his nose to see what he has to play with.

I have seen JR's last two performances at Reserve level and he shines head and shoulders above anyone else on the park, and at the end of the day it with that sort of talent he simply cannot be ignored.

Dan Harding should also be given an oppertunity as he is showing real potential at the moment.

If you saw the treatment JR recieved at the hands of rent a thug on Wed night you would not be at all surprised he was rested yesterday.

I cant believe what a read on this site, Jake Robinson is one for the future have watched him play many times but in reality he is just a kid lightweight and far to inexperienced to be pushed forward at ths stage. It has been a disgrace that he has been on the bench recently we have other good young players who deserve their chance. I wonder where Dwayne gets the idea that Marney is not good enough fo Division 2 ,he hasnt played yet ? everyone was raving about his performance's in Division 1 last season thrown in without a single first team appearance against Warsall . Wilkinson again played well in Division 1 ,its a crime Dean Hammond is on loan ot Orient, Harding on the bench watching poor performances of our so called experienced players. We have some great youngsters who should have been used far more than they have, instead of playing safe with the same old faces, recent managment have wasted valuable chances to bring in our talented youngsters lets hope things will change and the new manager has balls .Otherwise save some money DK and scrap the youth system. :flameboun

Maybe it is time to bring in a number of the youngsters and play them for a few games. It may screw up our chances of automatic promotion, but so what. With the current team and lack of funds we could be even worse than last time in Div 1, if we were lucky enough to get promoted.

Give the kids a run, we aren't going to get relegated so it's not too big a risk. There always seems to be a reason why we don't play them but has there been a better time in the last 5 years to give the younger players an opportunity? They may just be better than we've already got.

If,as Gulldenboy says, we're not going to play them then we should get shot of them all and their coaches and abandon the youth team. There's no point in having one if you're not going to give youth a chance when the current team are going through the motions or just aren't up to it anymore.

Maybe they just aren't good enough.

Arsenal have a good youth setup but only very the best players ever get to play regularly in the first team.

Look how long it has taken Chris McPhee. Four years since his debut until he establishes himself in the first team. The likes of Marney are still improving. Marney hardly set the world alight at Southend on loan, and the same for Wilkinson at Chesterfield.

Hinshelwood has looked good, but still needs a lot of improvement. Same goes for Harding.

I do think that Robinson should at least be training with the first team.

Arsenal's youth players are going out on loan to get experience like Pennant and Volz so i suppose that is what we are doing.???

I think we are going overboard about bad performances.A lack of confidence maybe but they don't suddenley become bad players. The youngsters can come in and do a good job,Hinshelwood did very well at full back and probably could have kept his place in front of Watson but Hinshelwoods distribution kept letting him down as many on here kept saying, regars hoofing etc,Harding did ok at Plymouth but tired early and many in the stand were shouting for him to come off.McPhee has done ok but I would like to see another striker join and let him go back on the bench.Jake is still to small and young to see out a season in div 2.These players are tried and tested at this level and WILL produce the goods,no problem.Even Jones on his day.We are expecting to much from them.Driving home last night listening to 606 all the plastic prem fans were on moaning, even a Chelski fan and they are 2nd in the prem,We can't get so low to keep giving our players load of stick,we are still 4th and will get better now we have a new manager and leadership to take us forward, stop whinging and get behind the players who have given us so much success in the past.Have faith in the management to pick the best players on the day and if it needs changing it will happen. We can't all be right in the team selection,we can't all be involved in it,so just back the ones who are picked.Wait until Roberts comes back and Kuipers is left out, that will cause an argument. The youngster will get their chance and then have to take it ,as with any other player who is left out they have to fight for their shirts.

No, it's a disgrace that he HASN'T been on the bench recently, especially when we haven't had a specialist striker there. Jake outshone everyone, including Marney who missed 5 easy chances, in the reserves on Wednesday.

Except that he wasn't rested. He played for the youth team.

Blimey! 1000 views of this thread in 24 hours - and practically nobody coming out in defence of the old guard. Pretty conclusive huh?

Ok, I'll say something in their defence. Some of them, anyway:

Carpenter is certainly going thru a bad patch. But get him a good central midfielder to play alongside and I believe he will improve again. Before Rodger was injured he was playing pretty well. Rehmann was a big disappointment, so must have been difficult for Chippie to shine next to such a waste of space. Too early to suggest dumping him.

Kerry played badly for a while last season, was dropped and then came back strongly. Probably the same needs to happen now. Drop him for a while ... but no need to dump him permanently.

Gary Hart has definitely played better, but we know he can do well at this level and I'm sure his form will improve.

Jonesy. Well he has never impressed me and I think he could safely be waved goodbye.

Ditto Watto.

So don't jump to conclusions. All players have poor patches when their form goes to hell. Don't throw them out with the bathwater. Drop them for a while and hopefully their form will return.
